Free Birds is one of those movies that people forgot existed after it release. By the time anyone remembers it & looks back, you can see why you forgot all about it. There are several reason why Enter should tear this movie a new one. Now I'm not saving he should review it right this second, but when the time is right for him o so.
(note: This is my point of view, please don't take it personally)
1.) Bad Messages and Horrendous Characters-I think the critic did us a favor when warring us about how spiteful and mean spirited the tone of this film is. One example is after being mistreated and becomes the president's dinner, Owen Wilson's character lies about being hero called El Solo Lobo and takes advantage of a girl turkey using said lie. Dose that not remind you of Will Smith Fish? Woody Harrison's character is basically a Buck Cluck clone. As he acts abusive & wipes his own ego on everyone. He also copies Davey Stone as he act like an insufferable after his mom died. Myles Standish is a control freak who uses and abuses everyone for money. None of the character ever get called out for their selfish action or suffers a true punishment for doing said actions even though they'll truly awful in their own respective rights. What does this teach kids? That lying or acting like a jack@$$ gets you everything you want? Also there references to sexual harassment as Amy Pohler slaps Owen Wilson into Woody Harrison's @$$.
2.) Terrible Marketing-The film was marketed the same way Son of The Mask, Mars Needs Moms, Strange Magic, Arctic Dogs and Playmobil: The Movie was marketed (which should tell you what your in for). No proper advertisements, Merchandise, T-Shirts, billboards and so on. It didn't even have a kids meal toy tie-in or video game like a normal mainstream animated film. Like did anyone see a commercial or even toys on store shelves? However, this worked because it ended up a box-office success. Yes, I judge how things are marketed nowadays.
3.) Treating the audience like there Idiots-The people behind this movie treats the audience like they're stupid. The go out of their way to throw plot holes, inconsistency and poop jokes up to 11. Owen Wilson's character is an anthro (cannot spell that properly) turkey from modern day but does not know what TV is. How does that make any scene? There are a lot of thing that don't make scene and sometime the character have to explain thing we already know or already seen on screen. Do people really love when movies treat them like this?
4.) Racist Content-Movies like this cannot be made today because certain groups of people will get offended by certain character portrayals. The turkeys, the president and pilgrims are portrayed as hillbilly rednecks, The strict elderly farm turkey from the beginning is a Mexican stereotype, Myles Standish looks like Mr. Slave from South Park and Amy Pohler's character is portrayed as a young girl stereotype that doesn't even know she's being taken advantage of.
5.) Insulting Ending-The ending has no real payoff & everyone is rewarded for being a terrible person (see first example). None of the antagonist (Woody Harrison, Strict Elderly Farm Turkey, The President, his daughter and Myles Standish) were even punished or humiliated. Owen Wilson never told the truth about himself and got away with lying to everyone and they just expect us for this to be a happy ending.
Sorry for thinking to deep into this movie, This movie make me wanna vomit for how ugly and mean-spirited it truly is. Also, I only saw this movie once and going by my memory. If I get anything wrong, feel free to correct me.
